Matt Towery is Managing Director of HBS Government Affairs – National and is a member of the Government Affairs practice group. Prior to Hall Booth Smith, P.C., Mr. Towery worked for McKenna, Long & Aldridge LLP.

As a former member of the Georgia House of Representatives, as well as being the Republican Party nominee for Lieutenant Governor of Georgia in 1990, Matt Towery brings both his personal and professional experience to the HBS Government Affairs team. Mr. Towery is a nominee of the "John F. Kennedy Profiles in Courage Award," for which he was nominated by Dr. Andrew Young and the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change. He was also chosen as "Outstanding Republican State Legislator of the Year" by the National Republican Legislator’s Association. Pace Academy honored Mr. Towery with its "Distinguished Alumnus Award" and the Stetson University Lawyers Association presented him with the "Paul M. May Award for Outstanding Services."

Mr. Towery has extensive government and political experience, including serving in the Georgia House of Representatives from 1992 to 1997, as well as being the Republican Party nominee for Lieutenant Governor of Georgia in 1990. He served as a top political strategist in senatorial, congressional, and gubernatorial campaigns. From 1992 until 1998, he was chairman of U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Newt Gingrich’s political organization.
