Practice Areas

Business Litigation

Jeff has a broad range of experience litigating commercial disputes in both state and federal court, including: contract disputes; shareholder derivative suits; civil RICO claims; accounting professional liability claims; employment litigation; and actions alleging various business torts, such as fraud, fraudulent transfer, tortious interference, and misappropriation of corporate business opportunities. Jeff has obtained favorable results for his clients in all phases of litigation, including dispositive motions, settlement, alternative dispute resolution, jury trial, and appeals.

Education

Jeff provides a variety of legal services to school districts and educational institutions. He has significant experience defending them in civil rights lawsuits; whistleblower actions; claims based on special education services; and employment litigation. Drawing on his expansive litigation background, Jeff also counsels his educational clients in day-to-day matters, such as: school board governance, policy, and procedure; compliance with new legislation; navigating personnel issues; and evaluating requests for disability-related accommodations and services. Most recently, Jeff was involved in the defense team that secured the dismissal with prejudice of several civil rights claims against a school district.

Governmental Liability

In addition to business litigation, Jeff devotes a substantial portion of his practice to defending governmental entities and officials against a variety of claims, including civil rights claims, employment claims, whistleblower actions, class actions, claims based on special education services, and various common law tort claims. Though Jeff has significant trial experience, he frequently is able to prevail on such claims through skilled dispositive motions practice. Most recently, Jeff successfully argued before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit in defense of a summary judgment ruling in favor a school district in a complex and legally significant Title IX case.

Transactional

Jeff has developed significant experience in helping clients realize their business goals. In addition to conducting the due diligence that can accompany any deal, he has served his clients in numerous other ways, such as: forming holding companies and operating subsidiaries; preparing corporate and organizational documents suited to each client's individual needs; advising businesses on permit and licensure requirements; and assisting with the negotiation and drafting of various agreements.
