Jeff Daniel is an Associate in the Atlanta office. He earned his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University. During law school he was a member of the Mercer Law Review and served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Marc T. Treadwell in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia. Following graduation, Jeff was inducted into the Brainerd Currie Honor Society for his outstanding academic achievement and service to the law school. For excelling in Trial Practice, Evidence, and Civil Procedure courses, he received the Student Advocacy Award from the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. Prior to law school, Jeff earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Georgia, where he served on the University of Georgia Judiciary.
Jeff has a broad range of experience litigating commercial disputes in both state and federal court, including: pre and post-judgment collection actions; insurance coverage disputes; employment claims; consumer protection statutory claims; and actions alleging various business torts, such as fraud, tortious interference, and misappropriation of corporate business opportunities.
Jeff provides a variety of legal services to school districts and educational institutions. He has significant experience defending them in civil rights lawsuits; whistleblower actions; claims based on special education services; and employment litigation. Drawing on his expansive litigation background, Jeff also counsels his educational clients in day-to-day matters, such as: school board governance, policy, and procedure; compliance with new legislation; navigating personnel issues; and evaluating requests for disability-related accommodations and services. Most recently, Jeff was involved in the defense team that secured the dismissal with prejudice of several civil rights claims against a school district.
In addition to defending educational institutions, Jeff also devotes a substantial portion of his practice to defending other governmental entities, including counties and municipalities, law enforcement agencies, and correctional facilities. Most recently, Jeff successfully defended several county defendants in a § 1983 lawsuit, obtaining a dismissal of all claims with prejudice.
Jeff has developed significant experience in helping clients realize their business goals. In addition to conducting the due diligence that can accompany any deal, he has served his clients in numerous other ways, such as: forming holding companies and operating subsidiaries; preparing corporate and organizational documents suited to each client's individual needs; advising businesses on permit and licensure requirements; and assisting with the negotiation and drafting of various agreements.
