Matthew Hickman is an Associate in the Brunswick, Georgia office. He focuses his practice on a wide range of business, healthcare, and general liability matters.

Prior to joining Hall Booth Smith, Matt clerked for the Honorable Judge Lisa Godbey Wood in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Georgia. Prior to clerking, Matt earned his Juris Doctorate from Emory University School of Law, graduating with honors in 2019. While at Emory, he served as the Editor-in-Chief for Emory’s Journal of Law & Religion and was a student fellow for Emory’s Center for the Study of Law and Religion. While there, his scholarship focused on the intersection of law, religion, race, and politics. Prior to attending law school, Matt worked for an international law firm and served as a legislative aide to House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams.

In addition to his law degree, Matt holds a Bachelor of Arts from Mercer University, graduating summa cum laude in 2012, and a Master of Divinity from Emory’s Candler School of Theology, graduating with honors, in 2019.

Mr. Hickman is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys international travel, mountaineering in the Rocky Mountains, and kayaking through the marshes of Glynn County. Passionate about historical preservation, he lives in Historic Downtown Brunswick with his dog, Ben.
