Spencer Craig Gill is a Partner in the Charleston office. As a native South Carolinian, she graduated from Clemson University, cum laude, with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and received her Juris Doctor from the Charleston School of Law in 2012.
During law school, she served as Judges Chair for the Moot Court Board, Research Assistant for the Legal Research and Writing Department, and was a member of the Business Law Society. Spencer also served as a judicial intern to the Honorable Robert S. Carr, Magistrate Judge of the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina.
Spencer joined the firm after serving as judicial law clerk to the Honorable Mikell R. Scarborough, Master-in-Equity for Charleston County, South Carolina.
Early in her career, Spencer spent several months shadowing local administrators to learn how these facilities operate and comply with state and federal regulations. She uses her “boots on the ground” training and thorough knowledge of the regulatory requirements to assist her team in developing the most effective defense in cases involving understaffing, inadequate training/supervision, abuse and neglect, decubitus ulcers, transfer injuries, and falls. Spencer has successfully mediated and arbitrated these cases on behalf of both individuals and corporations as well as in the context of class action litigation.
Since the beginning of her litigation career, Spencer’s practice has included the defense of health care professionals in medical malpractice actions. She has had the opportunity to represent health care providers in defense of alleged negligence care and treatment, misdiagnoses, medication and surgical errors, lack of informed consent, personal injuries, and wrongful death. Spencer uses her knowledge and experience in this area to assist various practice groups within the firm but particularly in defending health care professionals.
