Biography

Alexander C. Ligdis is an associate in the Raleigh office of Hall Booth Smith, P.C., where he focuses his practice on medical malpractice, aging services, correctional health care, professional malpractice and ethics, appellate matters, and general liability.

Before joining Hall Booth Smith, Alexander practiced at a regional defense firm where he handled workers’ compensation matters. He prepared trial and appellate briefs and motions, conducted evidentiary hearings and expert witness depositions, and successfully negotiated settlements through both direct negotiation and alternative dispute resolution. This experience allowed him to gain significant hands-on litigation experience and exposure to a wide variety of injuries and standards of care.

Alexander also served as a law clerk in the Office of the Attorney General and Reporter of Tennessee, where he drafted motions and responses to federal habeas petitions stemming from state convictions and assisted in representing the state’s interests during depositions.

Alexander earned his Juris Doctor from The University of North Carolina School of Law and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in Finance from the University of Tennessee.

A self-proclaimed legal enthusiast, Alexander closely follows U.S. Supreme Court cases and oral arguments to stay attuned to emerging legal developments. While at UNC, he helped litigate a case through the school’s Supreme Court Program, serving as a principal student drafter on a petition for writ of certiorari that was later featured on SCOTUSBlog. Alexander brings this same intellectual curiosity and commitment to excellence to every matter he handles.
