Andrew is a partner in the Birmingham office of Hall Booth Smith. He focuses his litigation practice on the defense of physicians, nurses, hospitals, and other health care providers. His practice also encompasses the defense of other personal injury and wrongful death claims, including trucking accidents and premises liability actions. Andrew is a member of the Public Affairs Research Council of Alabama (PARCA) Roundtable, the Defense Research Institute, the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association, the Birmingham Bar Association, and is an inaugural member of the Judge James Edwin Horton Inn of Court.
Andrew was born and raised in Lakeland, Florida. He attended Auburn University where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, summa cum laude, in 2006. He received his Juris Doctor from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in 2009. While at Cumberland, he was the recipient of the Scholar of Merit Award in Advanced Skills in Trial Advocacy.
Outside of work, Andrew enjoys spending time with his wife and three daughters. He is an avid sports fan and enjoys the outdoors. Andrew and his wife are also active members of Mountain Brook Community Church.
Obtained a defense verdict for a neurosurgeon in a case alleging negligent post-operative care following a brain aneurysm clipping, resulting in the patient’s death.
Obtained a defense verdict for a hospital and its OB/labor and delivery nurses relating to a brain-damaged child as a result of a placental abruption.
Obtained a defense verdict for an emergency medicine physician in a case alleging negligent failure to diagnose myocardial infarction, resulting in an anoxic brain injury.
Obtained a defense verdict for a hospital, its emergency room nurse, and emergency medicine physician/hospitalist, in a case alleging the negligent failure to diagnose a pulmonary embolism, resulting in the patient’s death.
Obtained a defense verdict for an emergency medicine physician in a case alleging the negligent failure to diagnose an abdominal aortic aneurysm, which ruptured and resulted in the patient’s death.
Obtained summary judgment for a hospital and its postpartum nurse in a case alleging the negligent arterial stick to the neonate’s arm, resulting in the autoamputation of the newborn’s fingertips.
Obtained summary judgment for a hospital, its emergency room nurse, emergency medicine physician, and orthopedic surgeon, in a case alleging the negligent care of a patient who had suffered a displaced fracture of the ulna-olecranon process, causing the rupture and hemorrhage of the patient’s arteriovenous fistula and resulting in the patient’s death.
Obtained summary judgment for a plastic surgeon in a case alleging the negligent performance of a bilateral breast reduction and negligent post-operative care, resulting in multiple surgical revisions, repairs, and scarring.
Obtained summary judgment for a family medicine physician in a case alleging the negligent failure to identify a retained hemostat clamp which remained in the patient following surgery.
Obtained a complete dismissal of a wrongful death case for a hospital based on the Plaintiff’s lack of a bona fide intent to serve the hospital at the time the Complaint was filed.
