Biography

For over three decades, Betsy Moran has concentrated her practice on appeals and preparing critical motions, briefs, jury instructions, and strategies for trial proceedings. She has more than 130 published and unpublished appellate decisions in state and federal courts along with countless trial court decisions.

Her appellate and critical motions practice spans medical malpractice, long-term / aging services, and correctional health care and also includes general casualty, premises liability, public entity / governmental immunity, products liability, employment, construction defect, and homeowners association disputes. She has frequently served as amicus counsel supporting issues of importance to our clients.

Key decisions she has obtained have served to interpret and enforce state law damage limitations in health care and general tort cases, establish the rights of defense counsel to access medical information and meet with a plaintiff’s treating health care providers, enforce immunities for governmental health care providers, refine the standards for Section 1983 claims against health care providers, establish standards of proof for age discrimination, and refine the application of FDA medical device preemption principles in product liability cases.

Betsy earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Denver and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics at Northwestern University. She serves on the Board of Directors for The Denver Hospice and has 15 years of past experience serving on an Institutional Review Board for a hospital.

Experience

With three decades of litigation experience — first as a trial lawyer and then as an appellate specialist — Betsy has extensive experience not only in litigating appeals but also in counseling and assisting trial counsel on novel and complex legal issues, preparing and arguing dispositive trial court motions, crafting jury instructions, and identifying and preserving issues for appeal as they arise.

Her areas of expertise include all aspects of medical malpractice and health care litigation as well as construction disputes, premises liability, employment, products liability, and other commercial litigation.
