Biography

Greg Ellington is a Partner in the HBS Columbus office.

He received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Virginia in 1991 and then earned his Juris Doctor at the University of Georgia in 1995.

A native of Athens, Georgia, Greg practiced with Hatcher, Stubbs, Land, Hollis and Rothschild, LLP after graduating from law school until he joined HBS in 2016. He is licensed in both Georgia and Alabama. He concentrates his practice in the areas of education law, business litigation, tax appeal litigation, and medical malpractice defense.

Greg assisted University of Georgia School of Law Professor Ronald Carlson with the 1993 revision of Trial Handbook for Georgia Lawyers, (2d ed. 1993), Green’s Georgia Law of Evidence (5th ed.), and West Publishing’s Dynamics of Trial Practice (Carlson and Inwinkelried).

He is a former pupil and barrister of the Joseph Henry Lumpkin American Inn of Court and is currently a barrister in the Columbus American Inn of Court. Greg was named to both the Georgia Rising Stars and Georgia Super Lawyers lists by Super Lawyers® by his legal peers and colleagues from 2007 to 2009. He is a past president of the Columbus Bar Association.

Greg is also involved in the Columbus community. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Valley Rescue Mission. In addition, he has volunteered with his local United Way chapter, was President of the Columbus Optimist Club, and served on the Board of Directors of the Georgia Legal Services Program from 2013 to 2015.

Experience

Business Litigation

Greg litigates class actions on behalf of both individual and corporate plaintiffs and defendants, tort cases on behalf of both individual and corporate plaintiffs and defendants, breach of fiduciary duty and breach of contract litigation involving businesses, and ad valorem tax litigation.

Education

Greg has over 25 years of experience handling the legal issues confronting Georgia’s school districts. He serves as Board Parliamentarian and General Counsel to the Muscogee County School District. Throughout his career, he has served as lead counsel in litigation pending in state, federal, and appellate courts for cases sounding in tort, contract, Title IX, and employment claims as well as in due process hearings and administrative law matters such as those pending in the Office of Civil Rights and EEOC.

Medical Malpractice

Greg has litigated a number of medical malpractice cases on behalf of physicians throughout his more than 20 years of practice, including appellate work and trial.
