Meg Yanacek is a partner with Hall Booth Smith P.C. She has defended all types of health care providers and facilities at both the trial court and appellate court levels. She is experienced in all phases of litigation, including preliminary investigation, depositions, motions practice, mediation, trial and appeal. She has successfully represented providers in a varying array of pre-suit claims or lawsuits, including claims with complex allegations of catastrophic injury, wrongful death, and class actions.  She has also represented acute care, skilled nursing, assisted living facilities, and pharmacies. Ms. Yanacek also defends health care providers in disciplinary and administrative actions brought by their respective licensing agencies.

In addition to being an active trial attorney, as a Certified Professional Health Risk Manager, Ms. Yanacek also utilizes her health policy background to provide her clients with advisory opinions on regulatory issues, including consent or power-of-attorney issues, psychiatric commitment matters, guardianship matters, HIPAA/HITECH, CMS, and the Joint Commission. She also enjoys presenting to clients and legal organizations on topics related to litigation and healthcare.

Ms. Yanacek’s legal experience also includes serving as Associate Counsel for a large hospital system. As in-house counsel, she managed complex healthcare claims and litigation, including performing pre-suit investigations, negotiating settlements, and managing outside counsel in their defense of lawsuits and administrative actions. Her responsibilities also included advising the system’s affiliated providers on regulatory and policy issues related to patient care.

Ms. Yanacek has been recognized by Super Lawyers as a Rising Star in Medical Malpractice Defense since 2015. She is actively involved in DRI’s Medical Liability and Healthcare Committee, including serving as the Online CLE Chair and the Vice Chair for the 2020 Medical Liability Conference. She is also currently the D.C. State Representative to DRI’s Board of Directors.

Additionally, Ms. Yanacek has litigation experience in the areas of toxic tort, construction defect, product liability and premises liability
