Overview

Michael G. Frick is a Partner in the HBS Brunswick office.
A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Mr. Frick is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. He served five years active duty in the U.S. Navy as an officer during the Vietnam War. After leaving the Navy, Mr. Frick earned his Juris Doctor at Emory University School of Law, graduating in 1977. 
In his more than 25 years of practice, Mr. Frick has served as a partner at notable firms throughout the Southeast, and joined HBS in 1997. His practice is focused on the areas of professional negligence/medical malpractice, personal injury and products liability. 
Mr. Frick is married and has four children. He is AV® Preeminent™ Peer Review Rated by Martindale-Hubbell, and was named Savannah Magazine's Leading Lawyer: Personal Injury Litigation, in 2013. 

Practice Areas

Appellate

Mr. Frick successfully argued before the United States Supreme Court in Washington, D.C., on October 15, 2003. A favorable decision was rendered on December 15, 2003, involving Federal Habeas Corpus issue under the Anti-Terrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act. Mr. Frick was an International Law Moot Court Team Finalist in a Law Day Moot Court Competition.

Employment

Mr. Frick is committed to helping employers avoid, resolve and prevail in disputes involving the full range of employment and labor issues. His expertise in employment law includes litigation in state and federal courts, and the representation of employers before administrative agencies over claims such as discrimination, harassment, retaliation, accommodation, state torts such as negligent supervision and hiring, intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress, defamation, invasion of privacy and wrongful discharge allegations.

General Liability

Mr. Frick has first-chaired the defense of more than 60 personal injury cases, ranging from premises liability (such as slip and fall, battery, false arrest or malicious prosecution) to automobile liability.

Insurance Coverage

Insurance matters are another key part of Mr. Frick’s practice. He has represented insurance companies in Declaratory Judgment actions involving policy interpretations and coverage issues. Insurers frequently call on him to render opinions regarding coverage issues prior to suit. 

Products Liability

Mr. Frick has first-chaired 10 products liability cases involving alleged injuries from escalators, elevators, power tools, lawn mowers, and small kitchen appliances such as microwaves and toasters.

Professional Negligence / Medical Malpractice

Mr. Frick has first-chaired over 30 medical malpractice cases to verdict, including many as representation for leading hospitals. For three years, he has served as in-house counsel for Georgia Baptist Medical Center in Atlanta, working for the Hospital Board in medical staff matters, and has assisted risk managers in preparing and updating policy and procedure manuals. Mr. Frick has also represented defendants in dental, legal and accounting negligence cases throughout the state of Georgia.

Property / SIU

Mr. Frick is known for working with insurers in defense of property claims and ensuring that fraud does not play a part in the tort system.

Transportation

Representation of trucking companies and public transportation companies is an integral part of Mr. Frick's practice.
