Overview

Michael Memberg is an associate in the Atlanta office. He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Georgia with a B.A. in Political Science. He received his J.D. from Mercer University at the Walter F. George School of Law, with a certificate in Advanced Legal Writing, Research & Drafting. While still in law school, his article, "Tightening the Belt: The Compensability of Gastric Bypass Surgery under the Georgia Workers' Compensation Act," was published in the State Bar of Georgia Workers' Compensation Section Newsletter for Summer 2007.

Since becoming licensed to practice in 2008, Michael has gained valuable experience representing employers, insurers, and servicing agents in all aspects of workers' compensation claims, and he enjoys working with his clients to successfully resolve claims.

Michael enjoys speaking on workers’ comp topics, and he has spoken at several adjuster seminars on recent developments in Georgia workers' compensation law, Medicare Set-Asides, and strategies for using social media and online resources in claims investigation.  He recently spoke at a National Business Institute (NBI) CLE seminar on Medicare Set-Asides in Personal Injury Litigation, including presentations on Mandatory Insurer Reporting and Medicare Conditional Payment Subrogation.  Michael also serves the Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta by helping to guide non-profits through the pitfalls of workers’ comp in Georgia, including the preparation of handbook and a webcast on workers’ comp for non-profits.

Outside of his practice, Michael enjoys living in the Lake Claire neighborhood of Atlanta in his native DeKalb County with his wife Beryl and their golden retriever, Charlie, as well as cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta sports teams.

Practice Areas

Workersā€™ Compensation

Michael works with employers, insurers, and TPAs to bring workers’ compensation claims to a successful resolution.  He believes this process begins even before accidents occur and claims are filed, which means working with clients to get proactive policies in place to protect their interests.  These measures are of particular importance to temporary staffing companies and professional employer organizations (PEOs) that often do not have direct supervisory control of their employees and co-employees.  Michael has also been focusing on Georgia’s emerging professional employer organization (PEO) industry and is well-versed in the issues that arise out of a PEO’s co-employment arrangement.
Once a claim is filed, Michael works closely with his clients to stay out in front of all litigated issues to position the claim for litigation or a reasonable settlement.   He is available to defend workers’ compensation claims throughout both Georgia and Florida.
