James B. Durham is a Partner in the HBS Brunswick office.
He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Georgia, graduating cum laude in 1980. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1983. While at UGA, he was President of the Student Union, President of Gridiron, President of Sphinx Honorary Society and President of Blue Key Honorary Society. He has been a member of the State Bar of Georgia since graduating from law school.
Mr. Durham is a Past President of the State Bar of Georgia and a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers. Throughout his career, Mr. Durham has been involved in complex civil litigation, including products liability defense, medical malpractice defense, trucking litigation and mining law, and mineral resource litigation. He was in trial for several months in the San Juan Dupont Plaza Hotel fire case, representing International Elevators, a division of Otis Elevators.
In addition to his civil litigation practice, Mr. Durham has been involved in medical malpractice defense work, representing physicians and hospitals throughout South Georgia. He has extensive experience in commercial litigation, including trade secret litigation, contractual dispute litigation, partnership/shareholder disputes, covenants not to compete and tax litigation for corporate clients. During his more than 30 years of practicing law, he has represented numerous insurance companies in matters involving personal injury defense, coverage issues and first-party defense.
Mr. Durham is admitted to practice in all courts in Georgia, including the Georgia Court of Appeals and the Georgia Supreme Court. He is further admitted in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Georgia, the United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit and the Supreme Court of the United States.
He has been peer rated AV with Martindale Hubbell for more than 20 years. He has been selected as a Georgia Super Lawyer every year since 2005.
Georgia’s economy thrives in part because of its importance as a transportation hub. Numerous trucking companies operate in the state, and their vehicles traverse Georgia’s roads and highways to transport a variety of goods to market. Mr. Durham has years of experience in handling trucking litigation matters for clients in this industry.

In addition, Mr. Durham is deeply experienced in mining law and mineral resources litigation issues. He has represented a variety of clients in this all-important industry for the state of Georgia.
