Patrick is an associate in the Brunswick office of HBS and practices in a wide variety of areas, including Data Privacy and Security, Business Advisory and Litigation, Healthcare Compliance, Employment Law, and General Insurance Defense Litigation. Patrick, as lead counsel, has tried numerous cases throughout Georgia and uses his litigation background to work with businesses in the areas of data privacy and security, employment, and technology.
Patrick received his J.D. from the University of Georgia in 2011. While in law school, he was awarded Best Advocate in the second round of a national mock trial competition, was a semi-finalist in the J. Melvin England Mock Trial Competition, finished in the top 16 in the Russell Moot Court Competition, served on the Executive Board of the Mock Trial Team, and was Treasurer of the Student Bar Association. While in law school, Patrick also served as a Third Year Practice Prosecutor for the Rockdale County District Attorney’s Office.
Patrick received his B.A. in Political Science, magna cum laude, from the University of Georgia in 2008. While there, he served as Justice for the University Judiciary, Vice President of the Inter-Fraternity Council, served on the Leadership Team for Campus Crusade for Christ, was Number Three in the Kappa Alpha Order, was a graduate of the Institute for Leadership Advancement, and was selected to Phi Beta Kappa and Blue Key. While at the University of Georgia, Patrick interned for United States Senator Saxby Chambliss and studied abroad in Costa Rica.
Patrick and his wife, Jill, live on Saint Simons Island, Georgia. They are members of Wesley United Methodist Church at Frederica where Patrick currently serves on the Board of Trustees and as an Usher. In addition, Patrick serves on the Board of Directors for the Georgia Young Lawyers Division, leads a 707 Bible study for middle school boys through the Gathering Place, is Treasurer of the Glynn County Bar Association, and previously served as Co-Chairman of Leadership Glynn.
Patrick has acquired significant trial and courtroom experience in Georgia's courts. As lead counsel he has tried numerous cases and continues to represent businesses and individuals in cases that have a substantial impact on their livelihood. Patrick has participated in contractual dispute litigation involving confidentiality agreements, covenants not to compete, trade secrets, non-solicitation agreements, computer theft, and unfair trade practices. He has participated in complex business litigation involving mult-million dollar claims and in one of his recent trials he served as lead counsel and obtained a favorable verdict for a local retailer. Patrick also works with clients to identify strategic project goals and guides them through initial planning, contract negotiations, and project completion.
Patrick is a Certified Privacy Professional (CIPP-US) through the International Association of Privacy Professionals. He has experience in the areas of HIPAA, HITECH, and PCI DSS compliance.
Patrick provides compliance and privacy advisory services that include global privacy policies, privacy audits and compliance programs, regulatory compliance, policies and procedures, data monetization, privacy by design, and the internet of things. Patrick works with companies on the front end to develop enterprise wide data security preparedness strategies that include development and review of security incident response plans, cybersecurity audits, risk assessment analysis, policies and procedures, employee training, insurance, and vendor management assessment.
Patrick is the Co-Lead of the Firm's Data Security Rapid Response Team. In this role, Patrick is available around the clock to assist companies that are or have experienced a breach with forensics, law enforcement and regulators, data breach notification, managing public disclosures, C-Suite and Board support, and litigation.
Additionally, Patrick assists companies with vendor & technology transactions, cloud computing, development, and insured and uninsured data breach events.
Patrick is committed to helping employers avoid, resolve and prevail in employment disputes involving the full range of employment and labor issues. This includes litigation in state and federal courts and the representation of employers before administrative agencies over claims including: discrimination, harassment, retaliation, accommodation, and state torts such as negligent supervision and hiring, intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress, defamation, invasion of privacy, and wrongful discharge allegations.
Patrick has developed significant experience in helping clients realize their business goals. In addition to conducting the due diligence that can accompany any deal, he has served his clients in numerous other ways, such as: forming holding companies and operating subsidiaries; preparing corporate and organizational documents suited to each client's individual needs; advising businesses on permit and licensure requirements; and assisting with the negotiation and drafting of various agreements.
