Allison Burke Thompson
Biography
Allison Thompson is a Partner in the firm’s Charleston, South Carolina office with more than 25 years of experience advising and representing clients in insurance coverage, construction, professional liability, and regulatory matters. Combining her litigation and coverage experience with a practical understanding of insurance, construction, and regulatory issues, she takes a strategic and practical approach to complex disputes and guides clients through all stages of litigation.
Allison represents insurance carriers and private clients in a broad range of coverage matters involving policy interpretation, coverage defenses, and high-exposure claims under various lines of insurance. She advises on complex coverage issues and represents clients in declaratory judgment actions in state and federal court. She represents general contractors, subcontractors, owners, suppliers, and design professionals in construction-related disputes, including complex, multi-party construction defect litigation. She has extensive knowledge as to the technical, contractual and insurance issues which frequently intersect with construction and liability disputes including contract claims, risk transfer and related litigation.
In addition to her insurance coverage and construction litigation practice, Allison advises clients on regulatory and administrative matters involving Medicaid long-term care eligibility. She represents clients in administrative hearings, appeals, and special proceedings and assists healthcare providers with guardianship and conservatorship matters, and related legal issues.
Allison began her career with a general insurance defense firm, where her practice focused on coverage as well as the defense of general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and window manufacturers in state and federal courts. She brings a unique perspective with over 20 years working with a boutique construction defect firm where she represented homeowner’s associations as well as single-family residential and commercial property owners in complex multi-party litigation in both state and federal courts.
Originally from Hickory, North Carolina, Allison earned her Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina and her Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the College of Charleston. In her spare time, Allison enjoys spending time with her family, reading, photography and giving back to community interests.
