Biography

Jake N. Farbman is an associate in the Nashville office of Hall Booth Smith, P.C., where he focuses his practice on entertainment law, business transactions, intellectual property, and general litigation. He represents artists, creatives, and entrepreneurial clients in negotiating recording, publishing, and collaboration agreements while advancing their business interests and protecting their rights. His practice benefits from a rare combination of legal training, industry experience, and firsthand knowledge of the challenges faced by artists, rights-holders, and entertainment companies.

Before joining HBS full-time, Jake served as a summer associate and law clerk in both the Nashville and Miami offices, where he drafted and reviewed producer, publishing, and recording agreements, prepared dispositive motions and settlement documents, and supported attorneys in hearings, depositions, and other litigation matters.

Jake also gained valuable judicial experience clerking for the Honorable Judge Laura Maria Gonzalez-Marques in the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Court of Florida, Criminal Division, where he prepared legal research, drafted bench briefs and opinions, and observed courtroom proceedings.

Jake brings a unique perspective to his legal practice through nearly a decade of firsthand industry involvement. He co-founded the rock band The Catching, in which he was a guitarist and songwriter. As part of the band, he performed over 500 shows in 43 states sharing stages with major recording artists, collaborated with top producers, grew a large fanbase, and worked with recognizable music and entertainment brands. He later co-founded a full-service artist management and consulting agency, where he guided developing talent and advised startup companies on strategic growth initiatives.

Jake earned his J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law, where he received the Director’s Book Award for Excellence in Litigation Skills and was named to the Dean’s List. In law school, he concentrated on music law, IP, and antitrust, authoring a law review article analyzing concert-ticket affordability and the Live Nation/Ticketmaster market structure. The article was published in University of Georgia School of Law’s Journal of Intellectual Property Law and later highlighted by Miami Law for its contributions to the national conversation on ticketing reform.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business (Law) with a minor in Political Science from Arizona State University’s W. P. Carey School of Business. During undergrad, he contributed to business development initiatives at Studio South Holdings supporting film and media projects. He also received certifications in copyright law in music and music business foundations from the Berklee College of Music.
Jake leverages his industry knowledge and business-minded approach to help clients navigate the legal and commercial landscape of the entertainment world.
