Biography

Peter O’Connell is Of Counsel in Hall Booth Smith’s Charlotte office where he focuses his practice on the defense of healthcare providers in medical malpractice actions and before state licensing boards. In addition to working with healthcare providers, he also defends dentists and other dental providers in the wide variety of claims they may face.

Born in Massachusetts and raised in Connecticut, Peter attended the University of Alabama, serving as Executive Editor of the daily student newspaper before graduating magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in journalism in 1992. He worked as a reporter and editor at community newspapers in Alabama, Mississippi and South Carolina before joining the Las Vegas Review-Journal in 1998. Peter covered Las Vegas courts as a reporter and editor for seven years and was named Journalist of the Year by the Nevada Press Association in 2001.

Peter enrolled in Wake Forest University School of Law in 2005, graduating magna cum laude. Earlier in his legal career, he represented civil litigants in a wide variety of controversies.

Peter is an active tennis and softball player, and has coached several youth baseball teams. He lives in Greensboro with his wife, a high school English teacher, and their three children.
