5 Colorado HBS Attorneys Honored in the 2023 Super Lawyers Magazine
DENVER, COLORADO – March 8, 2023 – HBS is honored to celebrate the talent of Christine A. Craigmile, Elizabeth C. Moran, Scott S. Nixon, Catherine O’Brien Crum, and Bradley N. Shefrin as they have been recognized on the 2023 Super Lawyers list.
Christine A. Craigmile
Christine was honored for her work in personal injury medical malpractice defense. She specializes in high-exposure medical malpractice and professional malpractice lawsuits. She defends hospitals, physician groups, nurses, aging services and long-term care facilities, ambulatory surgical centers, urgent care providers, administrators, and other health care professionals in a wide range of litigation as well as licensing, credentialing, and internal investigations.
She often litigates in state and federal court and has a robust mediation and arbitration practice to resolve matters outside of the courtroom. In addition to her litigation work, hospitals and other health care facilities rely on Christine for risk management training and counsel, assistance with regulatory and administrative matters, and a range of other day-to-day business and legal issues.
Elizabeth C. Moran
Betsy was recognized for her work in appellate matters for the 10th year. She has concentrated her practice on appeals to safeguard hard-fought victories and overturn unfavorable outcomes in lower courts. She has more than 100 published and unpublished appellate decisions and countless trial court decisions. She specializes in high-stakes medical malpractice, long-term care and aging services, correctional health care, dental, insurance, civil rights related to medical and health care, and professional licensing.
Betsy also represents clients in construction litigation, premises liability, homeowners association disputes and real property rights, employment, products liability, general casualty, commercial litigation, and governmental immunity and public entity claims.
Scott S. Nixon
Scott was honored for his work in personal injury medical malpractice defense. He has four decades of legal experience and concentrates his practice on medical malpractice defense and other health care litigation. Scott defends physicians, surgeons, nurses, managed care and HMO groups, hospitals, health care systems, physician groups, and other health care professionals in complex high-exposure cases such as catastrophic injury, misdiagnosis, wrongful diagnosis, birth trauma, unexpected surgical outcomes and wrongful death.
He represents numerous correctional facilities and governments in civil rights, malpractice, injury, and liability claims. Scott is designated as Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of Colorado on an ad hoc basis. He was elected as a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers in 2022 and is an invited member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) in the Colorado chapter.
Catherine O’Brien Crum
Catherine was acknowledged for her work in personal injury medical malpractice defense. She represents health care systems, hospitals, urgent care centers, nursing homes, long-term care facilities, laboratories, doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals and their insurers in a wide variety of litigation. She specializes in high-exposure claims including catastrophic injury and birth trauma as well as medical records documentation, HIPAA, EMTALA, COVID, informed consent, mental health commitment, guardianships, peer reviews, and medical staff matters.
In addition, Catherine counsels clients on best practices and training around regulatory matters such as compliance, internal investigations, and consent decrees as well as credentialing and licensure issues and other day-to-day business and operational needs.
Bradley N. Shefrin
Brad was honored for his work in construction litigation. He concentrates his practice on construction and general liability litigation defense and works closely alongside companies of all sizes to protect their interests and support the growth of their businesses. Brad specializes in insurance litigation defense for builders, general contractors, engineers, construction trade companies, design professionals, manufacturers, distributors, landowners, homeowners associations, and employers in all manner of litigation.
He has handled hundreds of construction defect lawsuits and defended subcontractors and trade professionals in single-family, multi-family, townhome, and high rise communities. He also represents construction firms and subcontractors on industrial, manufacturing, and commercial projects both large and small. In addition to litigation, Brad handles zoning, fiduciary duties, contract negotiation, and dispute resolution.
