Hall Booth Smith Welcomes Scott MacLatchie as Partner in Charlotte Office

CHARLOTTE, N.C. –  Hall Booth Smith, P.C. is pleased to announce that seasoned law enforcement consultant, workplace investigator and litigator Scott MacLatchie is joining the firm as a partner in Charlotte, North Carolina.

MacLatchie brings more than three decades of experience as a trial attorney, including serving as lead counsel in class action cases, and in numerous state and federal matters for both public and private sector clients. He has successfully briefed and argued numerous cases before state and federal appeals courts, and is often brought in to investigate workplace harassment, sexual harassment and a variety of other employment claims.

A currently sworn officer with a major metropolitan U.S. law enforcement agency, MacLatchie is often sought out by law enforcement agencies to educate and provide counsel on liability issues, day-to-day operational matters, use of force and electronic control devices, and changing dynamics in this era of citizens trying to bait police into overreaction while recording incidents on smart phones.

MacLatchie’s class action experience includes serving as case point attorney in a multistate diet drug lawsuit. He also defended the County of Los Angeles in a federal civil rights class action case regarding conditions at the Los Angeles County Jail. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department bestowed upon him an Award of Excellence in recognition of his outstanding legal service. MacLatchie is frequently invited to speak at legal conferences, law enforcement training classes and to the media about the complexities of modern law enforcement.

MacLatchie earned a Juris Doctorate degree from Loyola Marymount University, where he was named to the Dean’s List and was in the Moot Court Honors Program. He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree, cum laude, from the University of Southern California. He is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police Legal Officers’ Section, and he was voted into the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA).
