Hall Booth Smith’s Columbus Office Moves to Iconic Carmike Cinemas HQ

COLUMBUS, GEORGIA – Hall Booth Smith, P.C. is relocating its office in Columbus, Georgia, to an iconic 5-story glass building that formerly housed the headquarters of Carmike Cinemas.
Hall Booth Smith leased 25,000 square feet in the building at 1301 1st Ave. for a five-year term, with an option to extend for another five years. HBS moved 34 employees, 17 of them attorneys, into the new office on Jan. 1 as it vacated its former location in Corporate Center.
Relocating to the Carmike building in the heart of uptown Columbus accommodates the firm’s current needs, and creates a strategic opportunity for future growth and expansion. The firm will showcase the building’s history by keeping movie memorabilia on display, and integrating those items into the office design. HBS will also use a high-end movie theater on the third floor for client events and viewing parties.
“As we considered our options across Columbus, we gravitated toward this unique opportunity to move our office into a building that has so much rich Columbus history embedded in it,” said Paul Ivey, managing partner of the Columbus office.
Hall Booth Smith’s new address is: 1301 1st Ave., Suite 100, Columbus, GA, 31901.
Local developer Greyrock Properties LLC bought the former Carmike headquarters building in the spring of 2017, shortly after Carmike was bought by AMC Entertainment Holdings. The 86,000-square-foot office complex was built in the mid-1980s for Carmike.
Carmike has had a presence in Columbus since the early 1900s when Roy Martin Sr., the founder of predecessor company Martin Theaters, bought an existing nickelodeon theater downtown. Carmike had grown to 275 theaters, many of them in mid-sized communities, at the time of the AMC purchase.
