HBS Attorneys Recognized in 2016 Georgia Super Lawyers

In the 2016 edition of the Georgia Super Lawyers magazine, the law firm of Hall Booth Smith (HBS) will once again be recognized for its outstanding legal work as nine of its attorneys are on the list of Super Lawyers: Alex H. BoothPhillip E. FridussJohn E. Hall, Jr., and Rush S. Smith, Jr. of the Atlanta office; James B. Durham and N. Daniel Lovein of the Brunswick office; John M.Sheftall and Robert C. Martin, Jr. of the Columbus office; and Anthony A. Rowell of the Tifton office. The list seeks to recognize outstanding Georgia attorneys from a variety of practice areas. HBS attorneys have been recognized on this list since the award’s inception in 2004.
Mr. Booth was recognized for his outstanding work in personal injury medical malpractice defense. Mr. Booth has been a partner in the firm’s Atlanta office for over 20 years and has extensive experience with general liability, professional negligence, medical malpractice and appellate law. This marks the eighth time that he has been named to the list of Super Lawyers.
Mr. Friduss‘ work in the State, Local and Municipal practice area has earned him this recognition. This is Mr. Friduss’ thirteenth time on the Super Lawyers list. His practice at HBS focuses on the defense of high exposure cases in the areas of governmental liability, correctional health care, appellate advocacy, and labor and employment. Over a span of 25 years, Mr. Friduss has had the pleasure of representing over 200 public entities.
Mr. Hall, was also honored for his work in personal injury medical malpractice defense. This is the twelfth time that Mr. Hall has been recognized as a Super Lawyer in this field. Mr. Hall is one of the founding partners of HBS and specializes in the defense of high exposure cases and also serves as National Counsel for several major insurance carriers throughout the Southeastern United States.
Mr. Smith, named partner in the Atlanta office, earned this award with his work in professional liability defense. This is the eleventh time Mr. Smith has been honored with the Super Lawyer award. Mr. Smith has achieved Martindale-Hubbell’s highest rating for legal ability and ethics for more than 20 years. He is currently the chair of the firm’s Professional Liability Practice Group.
Brunswick partner Mr. Durham was recognized in Super Lawyers for his superb work in business litigation. Mr. Durham is a Past President of the State Bar of Georgia and a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers.  Throughout his career, Mr. Durham has been involved in complex civil litigation including products liability defense, medical malpractice defense, trucking litigation and mining law and mineral resource litigation.
Mr. Lovein, a partner in the Brunswick office, was honored for his work in personal injury medical malpractice defense.  This is the fourth time he has been honored with this award. Mr. Lovein practices in the areas of workers’ comp defense, premise liability, medical malpractice, real estate, school law, and local government law.
Mr. Martin, a partner in the Columbus office, was acknowledged for his work in personal injury medical malpractice defense. Mr. Martin has practiced in the area of civil litigation for over thirty-five years. He is one of roughly 150 Georgia members of the American College of Trial Lawyers, and one of only five Columbus members. His practice is wide ranging involving medical malpractice, products liability and commercial litigation in State and Federal Courts.
Columbus partner Mr. Sheftall, was recognized for his work in estate planning & probate by Super Lawyers. For over thirty years, his area of concentration has been fiduciary law, including estate planning, estate administration, and fiduciary litigation.  He is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, serves as a Director of SunTrust Bank in Columbus, and is a former Trustee of the St. Francis Hospital Foundation.
Georgia Super Lawyers also recognized Mr. Rowell for his work in personal injury medical malpractice defense. Mr. Rowell is a partner of HBS and the managing partner of the firm’s Tifton office. This is the sixth time he has been honored with this award. Mr. Rowell has an extensive practice representing a variety of health care providers and managed care organizations.
