HBS Hosts Georgia Judges

Hall Booth Smith together with Georgia to Georgia Foundation hosted a delegation from the country of Georgia, April 20-27, 2013, through Open World Leadership program with a concentration in Rule of Law. A group of six delegates visited Atlanta to learn more about the rule of law in an attempt to further ongoing legal reforms in the Country of Georgia. The delegates consisted of five judges and one attorney who were accompanied by a group facilitator.  The delegates stayed at homes of local volunteers and toured Atlanta’s popular places such as CNN Center, Coca Cola Museum, the Georgia Aquarium, Underground Atlanta, and the High Museum of Atlanta.

Throughout the week, delegates visited with justices of the Federal and state judiciary; visited the Fulton County Jail; sat in on court proceedings; met with law professors, government leaders, and attorneys. They attended a Panel Discussion by the Carl Vinson Institute of Government at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. W. Scott Henwood, Of Counsel at the Atlanta office of HBS, presented a presentation/discussion on Retention & Archiving of Court Opinions Including Database Legal Research. The delegates also visited with the Prosecuting Attorney’s Council of Georgia, Mr. Chuck Olsen; Judicial Qualifications Commission State of Georgia, and Mr. Greg Loughlin, Executive Director of Georgia Commission for Family Violence.

Many wonderful relationships were built during the visit, and many professional resources were made available to the delegates as well as to their hosts. The visit was a tremendous success and provided delegates with a wonderful opportunity to view the legal world of USA at first hand and receive exposure to the culture and hospitality of the State of Georgia.
