HBS Welcomes Rhett Owens to the Birmingham Office

Hall Booth Smith is pleased to welcome attorney R. Rhett Owens to the Birmingham office.  In addition to his general commercial litigation practice, Mr. Owens has specific expertise in securities-related litigation, the preservation and production of electronically-stored information, estate administration and probate litigation, and matters involving allegations of trade secret protection and misappropriation and employee raiding, including seeking, and defending against requests for, temporary restraining orders and preliminary and permanent injunctive relief.  Mr. Owens also has significant experience in representing governmental clients in cases involving alleged constitutional violations, including alleged violations of 42 U.S.C. § 1983 and Title VII.

Prior to joining HBS, Mr. Owens worked as a litigator with Burr & Forman LLP, where his practice focused on the representation of corporate and individual clients in a wide variety of general litigation matters.  Mr. Owens received his J.D., cum laude, from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University and his B.A., magna cum laude, from Hampden-Sydney College.  In law school, Mr. Owens served as President of the Henry Upson Sims Moot Court Board, participated on the Cumberland National Moot Court team, and served as an Honor Court Justice.   From 2008 through 2011, Mr. Owens was elected to the Executive Committee of the Young Lawyers Section of the Birmingham Bar Association and, during this time, served for two years on the Board of the Birmingham Volunteer Lawyers Program.  In 2012, he was named a “Rising Star” of the Birmingham Bar by B-Metro Magazine, and in 2013 and 2015, was named an Alabama Super Lawyers Rising Star.  More recently, Mr. Owens was named a 2016 Mid-South Super Lawyers Rising Star.
