Hall Booth Smith Welcomes Two Attorneys to Oklahoma City Office
Hall Booth Smith, P.C. (HBS) is pleased to welcome associates Corby Covalt and Alexis O’Brien to its Oklahoma City office. Both attorneys bring valuable experience and perspectives that will further strengthen the firm’s ability to serve clients across Oklahoma.
“We are excited to welcome Corby and Alexis to our growing Oklahoma City team,” said Mike Heron. “Corby’s background in medical malpractice defense and Alexis’s experience with our firm and strong legal foundation make them excellent additions to our office. Their skills and dedication will further enhance our ability to provide exceptional legal services to clients throughout the state.”
Corby J. Covalt focuses his practice on health care, medical malpractice, and professional malpractice and ethics. He represents physicians, hospitals, health systems, and other health care providers in complex medical malpractice litigation, with experience handling matters through all stages of litigation, including case evaluation, discovery, depositions, motion practice, and resolution.
Prior to joining HBS, Covalt spent five years with an Oklahoma City defense firm representing some of the state’s largest health care providers in medical malpractice actions. His background also includes legal internships with a leading Oklahoma health insurer and a major hospital system, providing him with insight into the legal and operational challenges facing health care organizations.
Covalt earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Oklahoma College of Law and his Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, in political science/pre-law from Oklahoma State University, with minors in philosophy and ethical leadership. He was also selected to participate in the International Association of Defense Counsel’s Trial Academy in 2023.
Alexis O’Brien focuses her practice on aging services, dental, general liability, health care, insurance coverage, and medical malpractice matters. She previously served as a summer associate in HBS’s Oklahoma City office, where she assisted attorneys with litigation matters involving medical record reviews, discovery disputes, deposition preparation, and case strategy. Her work included drafting a reply brief challenging a plaintiff’s opposition to a comprehensive medical authorization request and preparing a mediation statement for a case that ultimately settled.
During law school, O’Brien also served as a licensed academic intern with the University of Oklahoma College of Law’s Criminal Legal Clinic, where she represented clients in criminal proceedings, successfully obtained an expungement, and advocated for cost and fee waivers.
O’Brien earned her Juris Doctor, with highest honors, from the University of Oklahoma College of Law and was inducted into the Order of the Coif. She served as assistant executive editor of the American Indian Law Review and was a national semifinalist in moot court and arbitration competitions. She earned her Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, in history and criminology from the University of Florida.
