Elizabeth “Liz” Morrison practices in Hall Booth Smith’s Charleston office, with a focus on transportation and trucking, professional negligence, premises liability, residential and commercial landlord-tenant issues, insurance coverage, and medical malpractice. She also provides general representation and counseling to local businesses including contractors, property managers, and those in the food and beverage industry. Over the course of her tenure, she has gained extensive experience in defending cases that involve traumatic brain injuries and the niche field of toxic mold injuries.
Before joining Hall Booth Smith in 2017, she practiced in downtown Charleston on the famed Broad Street as a civil litigator with a focus on transportation and general liability matters. In 2015, Liz was selected as one of thirteen inaugural ambassadors to the South Carolina Bar Foundation and joined the board in 2019. She has served on the Lawyers’ Fund for Client Protection since 2016, and represented the Ninth Circuit in the South Carolina House of Delegates since 2018. She has been honored as a Legal Elite of the Lowcountry for insurance law by Charleston Business Magazine and was recently recognized as “One to Watch” by Best Lawyers in America.
Liz holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from East Carolina University, where she graduated magna cum laude and wrote articles for the university’s newspaper. After a brief stint working in marketing and procurement for an architectural firm in Washington, DC, she received her Juris Doctorate from the Charleston School of Law, graduating cum laude in 2012. During law school, she was elected to serve back-to-back terms as Treasurer and President of the Student Bar Association, and she was also selected as member of the Pinckney Inn of Court. She accumulated many pro bono hours of service through externships with the Army Corps of Engineers, the Housing Authority of the City of Charleston as a hearing officer, and Charleston City Council as a legislative aide.
Outside of her practice, Liz volunteers as an advisory board member to Lowcountry Street Grocery, a mobile farmers market that provides healthy food in food deserts throughout Charleston, and serves as a tour guide for Historic Charleston Foundation during its Annual Festival of Houses and Gardens. Liz lives in James Island with her husband and their two dogs and enjoys spending time on the water.
EXPERIENCE
Ms. Morrison regularly tries cases throughout South Carolina in both federal and state courts, in addition to the South Carolina Human Affairs Commission. He appellate experience includes appearances before the South Carolina Court of Appeals and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
