Biography

Maia Botero is an associate in the Miami office of Hall Booth Smith and a member of the firm’s Entertainment Practice Group. Her practice focuses on entertainment, fashion, creator, and intellectual property law. She represents digital creators, talent, emerging brands, founders, and entrepreneurs in protecting, building, and growing their businesses and brands.

Maia advises clients on a range of transactional and intellectual property matters, including influencer and brand partnership agreements, management and talent agreements, licensing arrangements, commercial contracts, trademark clearance and protection, and brand strategy. She works closely with clients to navigate the legal and business considerations that arise as they develop, monetize, and expand their brands and creative ventures.

With a background in litigation and dispute resolution, Maia brings a strategic and risk-conscious perspective to her transactional practice. Her experience allows her to approach contracts and business relationships with an understanding of how disputes develop, helping clients identify potential issues early and structure their relationships with long-term protection in mind.

Before joining HBS, Maia worked at JAMS, where she coordinated mediations and arbitrations involving complex commercial disputes. This experience provided her with practical insight into business conflicts and alternative dispute resolution and continues to inform her approach to negotiations, contracts, and client counseling.

Maia earned her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Miami School of Law, where she concentrated in Litigation and Dispute Resolution. During law school, she co-founded and served as President of the Fashion Law Society, organizing panels and networking events that connected students with professionals across the fashion, entertainment, and intellectual property industries. She also served as President of the Yvette Ostolaza Mock Trial Team and as a senator for the Student Bar Association.

Maia has continued to deepen her knowledge of the fashion industry through specialized training, including completion of the Fashion Law Institute’s Summer Intensive at Fordham Law School.

Maia’s achievements include receiving Hall Booth Smith’s Sky’s the Limit Award, selection to the Order of Barristers, the Miami-Dade Chapter of the Florida Association for Women Lawyers Civic Involvement Scholarship, honors in the Trial and Pretrial Litigation Skills Program, the Alan Ross Memorial Scholarship, and recognition as a quarterfinalist in the Chester Bedell Trial Competition.

A Miami native and proud first-generation Latina attorney of Colombian heritage, Maia is passionate about helping creators, founders, brands, and talent transform their ideas and creative work into protected and sustainable businesses. She understands that today’s creators and entrepreneurs are not simply producing content or products. They are building brands, intellectual property, and businesses with long-term value.
