Michael James “Mike” Canino
Biography
Michael James “Mike” Canino is an associate in the Charleston office who focuses his practice on general liability matters, with additional experience in construction, business litigation, insurance coverage, and business transactions.
Mike previously served as a summer associate at Hall Booth Smith, where he conducted legal research and drafted documents related to complex civil procedure and construction defect matters. He also participated in inspections on product liability matters and assisted in preparing client-facing communications on insurance coverage issues.
Before joining HBS full-time, Mike gained additional experience as a summer clerk and law clerk at several other regional law firms. In those roles, he drafted pleadings and discovery, prepared court filings, assisted in depositions and mediations, analyzed workers’ compensation claims, and contributed to matters involving economic development projects and contract disputes.
During law school, Mike was actively engaged in leadership and service. He served as a 2L representative on the Student Bar Association, a peer mentor for incoming students, and co-founded the National Security Law Society, where he served on the executive board. He also served on the executive board of the Business Law Society as a 1L. He was a member of the ABA Real Property, Trust, and Estate Law Journal and worked as a Research Assistant to Professor Clint Wallace, supporting scholarship in tax law. In addition, he volunteered with the VITA program and participated in several other student organizations.
Mike earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Finance) from the University of Central Florida and his Associate of Business Administration from Valencia College.
