Hall Booth Smith Raleigh Office Welcomes Alex Williams

Hall Booth Smith is excited to announce that Alex Williams has joined the firm as Of Counsel in the Raleigh, North Carolina office, where his practice focuses on governmental liability, correctional health care, and general liability defense.
“Alex brings extensive experience representing government agencies and public officials in complex civil litigation,” said Maria Wood, Partner in the firm’s Raleigh office. “His deep understanding of governmental liability, correctional health care matters, and constitutional litigation will be a tremendous asset to our clients and to the continued growth of our Raleigh office.”
Williams brings more than 15 years of litigation experience representing state agencies, public officials, law enforcement officers, correctional professionals, and medical providers in complex civil litigation matters in both state and federal courts across North Carolina.
Throughout his career, Williams has independently handled hundreds of civil matters involving correctional institutions, state investigative agencies, and their personnel. His work includes defending claims involving wrongful death, excessive force, malicious prosecution, wrongful conviction, and other alleged constitutional violations. He also regularly represents medical providers in correctional health care litigation, including claims involving alleged deliberate indifference.
Williams has significant experience litigating claims brought under 42 U.S.C. § 1983 and frequently handles cases involving sovereign immunity, governmental immunity, and qualified immunity defenses.
He has tried cases in all three of North Carolina’s federal districts and has handled multiple appeals before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, including cases that resulted in oral argument. In addition to his trial work, Williams advises government clients on policy development and risk management strategies designed to reduce institutional exposure and strengthen operational practices.
