Veteran Medical Malpractice Litigator James Navarro Joins Hall Booth Smith in New York City

Hall Booth Smith, P.C. (HBS) has strengthened its New York City litigation team with the addition of Partner James Navarro, a civil litigator with more than 20 years of experience defending health care providers in complex medical malpractice and general liability matters.

“James adds immediate depth to our New York practice,” said Drew Graham, Managing Partner of the firm’s New York City office. “He understands how to evaluate high-exposure cases early, develop a disciplined defense strategy, and keep each matter moving toward the best possible outcome for the client.”

James works closely with insurers and health care organizations to evaluate liability and damages, coordinate expert strategy, manage exposure, and prepare cases for resolution or trial. His practice includes medical malpractice, health care, premises liability, and general liability litigation.

Before joining Hall Booth Smith, James was a partner at a Manhattan law firm, where he served as lead counsel and managed complex matters from initial investigation through resolution. His results have included voluntary discontinuances, summary judgment dismissals, negotiated settlements, and defense verdicts as part of trial teams.

Earlier in his career, he served as a Court Attorney with the Supreme Court of the State of New York, Appellate Division, Second Judicial Department. In that role, he drafted hundreds of judicial opinions, building extensive experience in appellate analysis, legal writing, and issue preservation.

James is a first-generation Colombian American and is fluent in Spanish. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Latino Lawyers Association of Queens County and has previously served as a volunteer arbitrator for the Civil Court of the City of New York.

He earned his Juris Doctor from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law, where he served as a Note and Comment Editor for the Buffalo Law Review. He received his bachelor’s degree from Iona College.
