James Navarro
Biography
James Navarro is a Partner in the firm’s New York City office and has more than 20 years of experience as a civil litigator. His practice focuses on the defense of healthcare providers in complex medical malpractice matters, as well as general liability litigation. He collaborates with insurers and healthcare clients to develop timely, strategic approaches that mitigate risk, control exposure, and position cases for efficient resolution. James is well versed in early liability and damages evaluation, expert coordination, and implementing litigation strategies aligned with client and carrier objectives, while maintaining trial readiness.
Prior to joining HBS, James was a Partner at a highly regarded Manhattan-based firm, where he regularly served as lead counsel, developed case strategy, and managed the defense of complex medical malpractice and general liability matters from inception through resolution. In that role, he obtained favorable outcomes for clients, including voluntary discontinuances, dismissals on summary judgment, and negotiated settlements, while playing a key role on trial teams that secured defense verdicts.
Earlier in his career, James served as a Court Attorney with the Supreme Court of the State of New York, Appellate Division, Second Judicial Department, where he drafted hundreds of judicial opinions for one of the busiest appellate courts in the country, providing him with a strong foundation in appellate analysis and issue preservation.
James is a first-generation Colombian American and is fluent in Spanish. He serves on the Board of the Latino Lawyers Association of Queens County. He has also served as a volunteer arbitrator for the Civil Court of the City of New York.
James earned his Juris Doctor from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law, where he served as a note and comment editor for the Buffalo Law Review.
