Biography

Carlton Powers is an associate in the Augusta office of Hall Booth Smith, P.C. He focuses his practice on general liability, business litigation, medical malpractice and other litigation matters.

Before joining Hall Booth Smith, Carlton served as an Assistant Solicitor General in the Richmond County Solicitor General’s Office, where he gained extensive courtroom experience. He conducted thirteen jury trials, serving as first chair in five of them, and also led approximately thirty bench trials. He also successfully prosecuted a range of criminal matters. 

During law school, Carlton completed multiple internships with prosecutorial and governmental agencies, including the Gwinnett County and Douglas County District Attorney’s Offices, the U.S. Merit Systems Protection Board, and the Gwinnett County Law Department. These roles enhanced his litigation skills and deepened his understanding of both civil and criminal legal systems.

Prior to law school, Carlton worked in the insurance industry as a multiline claims adjuster with Progressive Insurance, where he managed complex claims and contributed to high-stakes arbitration outcomes.

Carlton earned his J.D. from Emory University School of Law and holds a B.A. from Magdalen College.
