Matt Allen Towery
Biography
Matt Towery is Chairman of the Government Affairs practice at Hall Booth Smith. He is a native of Atlanta and is a nationally syndicated columnist, author, political analyst, pollster, and attorney. He also has served as CEO of numerous companies, including, when sold, the largest sheet fed commercial printing company in the Southeast.
Matt also served in the Georgia House of Representatives and was the Republican nominee for Lt. Governor of Georgia in 1990 at age 30. He served as a strategist in numerous national and statewide political campaigns including as Chairman of then-Speaker Newt Gingrich’s political organization in the 1990s.
In 1998, the Georgia General Assembly named the State Bridge at I-285 and Paces Ferry Road in Cobb County, Georgia, the “Matthew A. Towery Bridge. Matt has authored numerous books including Powerchicks: How Women Will Dominate America, which reached the number one bestseller position on Amazon.com.
He has appeared on every major news network and on shows ranging from The O’Reilly Factor to Hard Ball with Chris Matthews and with hosts ranging from Sean Hannity to Bill Maher. In 2011 he served as a weekly guest commentator for CNN. Since 1998 he has been a political analyst for the NBC, ABC, and now the Fox affiliate in Atlanta. As CEO of InsiderAdvantage he has served as pollster to many national news organizations including Politico and Newsmax. He currently serves as the political analyst for numerous FOX affiliates in the South. He is also the political analyst for FOX 5 Atlanta, as well as a contributing analyst for Newsmax Cable News, and his nationally syndicated column is based out of the Florida Times-Union in Jacksonville and is syndicated by Creators Syndicate out of Los Angeles.
Matt is an AV Preeminent® Peer Review Rated™ attorney by Martindale-Hubbell, and his varied legal career in his early years included the successful defense of a 17 year old facing the death penalty in Georgia. In later years he has served as counsel on mergers and acquisitions, crisis management for major corporations, and governmental relations. He currently is Of Counsel with HBS in their Atlanta office.
Matt’s next book will focus on the role that polling, news events, and punditry play in the financial markets. Matt currently heads up his family owned LLLP which keeps him actively involved in both the financial and real estate markets.
He is a graduate of England’s Cambridge University and Florida’s Stetson University College of Law. Matt serves with emeritus status on numerous boards including private and public universities. He and his wife Dolle reside in Atlanta and Snell Isle, Florida. He has two adult children.
Experience
Matt has extensive government and political experience, including serving in the Georgia House of Representatives from 1992 to 1997 as well as being the Republican Party nominee for Lieutenant Governor of Georgia in 1990. He served as a top political strategist in senatorial, congressional, and gubernatorial campaigns. From 1992 until 1998, he was chairman of U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Newt Gingrich’s political organization.
