Biography

T. Michael “Mike” Burke, Jr. , a native of Jacksonville, Florida, is a partner with Hall Booth Smith. He attended Florida State University and graduated in 1993 with a degree in Political Science and a minor in International Affairs. In 1998, he graduated cum laude from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School. While attending law school, Mike worked as a law clerk for the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Civil Division, in Columbia, South Carolina.

Before coming to work at Hall Booth Smith, Mike was the law clerk for Superior Court Judges John D. Crosby and Gary C. McCorvey in the Tifton Judicial Circuit. He practices in all state and federal courts in Georgia and is admitted to the Georgia Court of Appeals. Mike is the past president of the Tifton Bar Association. Mike’s practice areas include medical and dental malpractice, retail liability, products liability, agriculture, and motor vehicle liability.

Over his 25-year career at Hall Booth Smith, Mike has tried numerous medical malpractice and premises cases to South Georgia juries.  Mike has handled cases from inception through verdict throughout South Georgia and is intimately familiar with the Judges, opposing counsel, and the potential jury pools.  Additionally, Mike has enjoyed success in the State and Federal appellate Courts, arguing in front of them on numerous occasions.

Experience

Medical Malpractice

Mike has served as counsel defending physicians and hospitals for most of his legal career. He aims for swift and favorable resolution of claims with minimal disruption of business relationships.

Premises Liability

Mike has represented hospitals, large hospitality lines, and retail entities in the areas of trip and fall, slip and fall, and premises security litigation. He has achieved positive results in both state and federal Courts. Mike is not only a zealous advocate for his clients but also readily assists in the formation of better business practices in order to avoid potential litigation in the future.

Products Liability

Mike’s products liability experience includes providing opinions on loss, evaluating the potential liability, and securing the necessary experts in order to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of potential litigation. Moreover, once litigation has been initiated, Mike has the experience and resources to provide the necessary defense.

Transportation

Mike has represented clients in both motor vehicle accidents and incidents involving common carriers. His experience includes providing opinions on loss coverage, apportionment among multiple carriers and policies, uninsured/underinsured motorists, and level of exposure.
