HBS Atlanta Office Welcomes Courtney Spicer as Of Counsel

Atlanta Of Counsel Spicer
Hall Booth Smith is pleased to announce that Courtney Spicer has joined the firm’s Atlanta office as Of Counsel. Courtney brings nearly 15 years of litigation and courtroom experience, with a practice focused on general liability, governmental liability, medical malpractice, and premises liability.

“We are excited to welcome Courtney to the firm,” said Managing Partner Alex Booth. “Her depth of litigation experience strengthens our ability to deliver exceptional representation to clients across Georgia.”

Before joining HBS, Courtney practiced in various jurisdictions throughout the state, handling thousands of felony and misdemeanor matters from investigation through trial and post-conviction proceedings. She began her career as an Assistant District Attorney in southeast Georgia before returning to the metro-Atlanta area, where she served in the Gwinnett and Rockdale County District Attorneys’ Offices. During her tenure in Gwinnett County, she led the Special Victims Unit and specialized in cases involving child abuse, sexual assault, and internet crimes against children.

Her prosecutorial experience is complemented by her work as a criminal defense attorney, where she represented clients facing felony, misdemeanor, and traffic offenses in metro-Atlanta courts. Across her career, she has honed critical litigation skills, including motions practice, jury selection, witness preparation, evidence presentation, and persuasive argument that directly translate to her defense of complex civil claims. She draws on this background to evaluate cases efficiently, anticipate opposing strategies, and develop compelling narratives for her clients.

Courtney is trained in ChildFirst Forensic Interviewing and later participated in Advanced ChildFirst as an attorney instructor. She has also been a frequent instructor to law enforcement on criminal law, procedure, and the handling of sexual assault cases.

Courtney earned her J.D. from Georgia State University College of Law, where she was a member of the Moot Court Board and Student Trial Lawyers Association and served as President of both the Criminal Law Association and the Oglethorpe Legal Society. She is a graduate of Leadership Gwinnett (Class of 2019) and remains active in the Leadership Gwinnett Alumni Association. She received her undergraduate degree in political science with Honors from the University of Georgia and spent a semester studying abroad at Oxford University.
